The project was led by Ferdinand Porsche, and it was first unveiled in 1938, but due to World War II, mass production did not begin until 1945.
The production of the convertible Beetle began in 1949 and continued until 1980. During that time, over 331,000 units were produced. The car was a success in the American market and became an icon of popular culture.
