The new Honda Civic Type R (FL5) arrives with the reputation of being the best hot hatch ever made, swapping the previous generation’s controversial design for a more mature and refined look, without losing the aggressiveness that defines the model. Although it still sports an imposing rear wing, the overall package is now more harmonious, clearly showing that this is a high-performance car with a touch of elegance.
The price increase is justified by a cabin that raises the segment’s standard. With a minimalist interior, high-quality materials, and a modern digital dashboard, the atmosphere is sophisticated. The standout feature is the red Alcantara sport seats, offering a sublime combination of comfort and support, cementing the Type R as a premium car despite being strictly a four-seater.
In terms of performance, the Type R is a tool of surgical precision. Its 315 hp engine and the manual transmission, considered the best in the category, provide impeccable drivability and addictive acceleration. However, its biggest flaw is the lack of sound emotion; the exhaust is very discreet and the artificial engine sound disappoints, leaving it technically perfect but with less soul than its louder competitors.
