Ram has confirmed the long-awaited return of the Hemi V8 engine for the 2026 1500 model year, a decision driven by consumer demand and the brand’s own recognition of the importance of the engine. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis admitted that removing the Hemi was a mistake, and the reintroduction aims to satisfy enthusiasts of V8 strength and sound.
The returning engine is the familiar 5.7L Hemi with eTorque mild-hybrid system, delivering 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, the same specifications as the 2022 model. This engine is positioned as an alternative to the modern Hurricane I6, focusing on the tradition and driving experience of a V8, and will be crucial to maintaining robust towing (up to 5,200 kg) and payload (up to 794 kg) capabilities.
The 2026 Ram 1500 Hemi will have unique badging and will be available in several trim levels. The engine’s rapid turnaround was made possible by a dedicated team and the use of the existing eTorque engine, which simplified the process. The Hemi will be an additional-cost option on select models, with deliveries beginning this summer.
