Nio ET9 New SUV Surprises Chinese Market

The new Nio ET9 has arrived, and it’s quite something. This luxury sedan, with its coupe-SUV styling, is turning heads with its cutting-edge technology and comfort that frankly feels like something out of a movie. Let’s be honest, a car that adjusts its suspension a thousand times per second and has a steering system that doesn’t even need a mechanical connection to the wheels is, at the very least, impressive, right?

NT 3.0 Platform Arrives in the ET9

It seems Nio wasn’t kidding around when it decided to innovate. The ET9 is the brand’s first in China to boast a 900V global architecture. And it doesn’t stop there; the NT 3.0 platform, already seen in the Onvo L60, is now also part of the ET9. Just imagine, the car adjusts the torque of the active suspension a thousand times per second. Isn’t that jaw-dropping?

In addition to the 900V architecture, which is a major innovation, the ET9 features an intelligent chassis system they call Skyride. This system adjusts the suspension in such a way that you hardly feel the imperfections of the road. And if you like stability, you’ll be glad to know that the turning diameter is only 10.9 meters, thanks to the rear-wheel steering system.

ET9, A Disguised Coupe SUV

You look at the ET9 and think, “Is that a sedan or an SUV?” Well, with a length of 5324 mm and a width of 2016 mm, it’s the largest Nio yet. The silhouette and height of 1620 mm give it that coupe-SUV feel, similar to the ES6 and ES7 models. But don’t be fooled, it’s a sedan with the presence of a large car, ready to impress.

And the wheels? Oh, the wheels are 23 inches, fitted with Pirelli PZERO EV-specific tires. And if you like exclusivity, you’ll love the midnight ceramic blue color, unique to the ET9. Not to mention the two-square-meter light curtain projected on the side of the doors. Seriously, it’s a lot of show, huh?

Luxury in the Interior of the New ET9

Getting into the ET9 is like entering an airport VIP lounge. The instrument panel is 48 inches, and the infotainment screen is 15.6 inches. But the best part is in the rear seats, which are adjustable up to 135 degrees. It’s almost a bed! And if you think that’s it, there’s more: two screens on the front seatbacks for the passengers in the back to enjoy.

The center console, which Nio calls the “Executive Bridge,” extends to the rear, creating an even more luxurious atmosphere. Need a drink? No problem, the ET9 has a 10-liter refrigerator that goes from -2°C to 55°C. And to store your valuables, a secret compartment. The seats? With 16 massage points with hot stones and heating at all contact points. It’s pure luxury!

Nio ET9 Exclusive Technologies

The ET9’s technology is out of this world. The Nio LYRA 8.2.4.8 sound system, with 35 speakers and 2800W, is practically a private concert inside the car. And the “drive-by-wire” steering? No mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels, like in airplanes. It’s cutting-edge technology that we only used to see in science fiction films.

The augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD) shows important information, such as battery swap locations, directly in your field of vision. And the SkyOS operating system is the first for China’s intelligent electric vehicles. High bandwidth, low latency, and computing power that would make any gamer envious.

Maximum Safety in the Nio ET9

Safety is serious business, and Nio knows it. The ET9 comes with nine airbags and, believe it or not, can maintain control even with a flat tire at 160 km/h. Tested and approved! The autonomous driving system? According to Nio, it’s 20 times safer than a human driver, with 31 sensors, including three lidar units and 4D millimeter-wave imaging radar.

The lidar coverage is 350 degrees, and the cameras’ coverage is 360 degrees. In other words, the car has eyes everywhere. Nio really doesn’t mess around when it comes to safety. It’s designed to make you feel protected in any situation, and that makes all the difference.

Surprising Performance of the ET9

And the performance? Well, the ET9 doesn’t disappoint. With a 120 kWh battery and an energy density of 292 Wh/kg, it achieves up to 650 km of range in the CLTC cycle. And if you need a quick charge, in 5 minutes you add the equivalent of 255 km of range. Need more? A fourth-generation battery swap station makes the swap in just 144 seconds.

The 900V Thunder electric drive system has a 925V permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with 340 kW of power and an asynchronous induction motor on the front axle with 180 kW. The result? Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds. It’s enough to leave many sports cars in the dust.
