Audi promises the end of fake exhaust tips in new models.

Audi Commits to Functional Exhausts

In an interview with Auto Express magazine, an Audi spokesperson announced that future vehicles based on the new Premium Combustion Platform (PCP) will feature “hot exhaust pipes; functional exhaust pipes.” This change reflects the brand’s desire to meet consumer expectations, who have expressed dissatisfaction with aesthetic solutions that were not truly functional. The new A5 Sedan and A5 Avant, along with the S5 versions, will be the first to showcase this new philosophy.

The Trend of Hidden Exhaust Outlets

Recently, many manufacturers have adopted a design that conceals the exhaust outlets beneath the bumper, using finishes aimed at deceiving consumers. However, Audi is determined to reverse this trend by opting to display the exhaust outlets in its new models. The expectation is that this change will extend to the smaller vehicles on the MQB platform, promoting a cohesive design across the lineup.

New Models and the Update of Nomenclature

In addition to the A5, Audi plans to launch several other models based on the PCP, including the Q5, A7, and Q7. All of these vehicles will follow the new guideline and eliminate fake exhaust tips. A larger SUV, provisionally known as Q9, is also in development, aiming to compete with the BMW X7 and the Mercedes-Benz GLS. The brand is also updating its nomenclature, intending to rename combustion models with odd numbers, while electric models will receive even numbers.

Audi’s Electric Future

Audi has ambitious plans for the future, aiming to become a fully electric brand by 2033. While the production of combustion vehicles may continue in China, this shift represents a significant step toward sustainability. The new approach to exhausts is just one part of the transformation the brand is promoting in its product lineup.

Audi is committing to eliminate fake exhaust tips, reflecting a new era of transparency and functionality in its vehicles. With the introduction of the new PCP and the update of nomenclature, the brand seeks to align itself with consumer expectations and the demands of the automotive market.
