Peugeot surprised the automotive market by beating Volkswagen to launch the first production electric GTI, the E-208 GTI. Unveiled during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the model revives the iconic acronym after six years, marking a historic milestone. Based on Stellantis’s e-CMP platform, it shares its mechanical base with other group models but is tuned for high performance to honor its sporty legacy.

In terms of performance, the E-208 GTI is equipped with a front electric motor producing 276 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in an impressive 5.7 seconds, making it the fastest Peugeot GTI in history. Despite its 54 kWh battery offering a range of 217 miles (WLTP), slightly lower than rivals like the electric Mini JCW, the French model stands out with V2L technology, which allows powering external devices.

The E-208 GTI’s greatest asset is its nostalgic design, paying a strong tribute to the legendary 205 GTI. With lowered suspension, widened track, and 18-inch wheels directly recalling the ’80s classic, the look is aggressive and iconic. The interior follows the same theme, with red accents, sport seats, and patterns evoking the original model, blending retro appeal with cutting-edge technology and enhanced chassis dynamics made for enthusiasts.
