Byd Drone Car: Sci-Fi Technology Arrives for $2,200!

A Chinese manufacturer, BYD, has once again innovated by introducing a drone system integrated into the car that looks like it came straight from a science fiction movie. Named Ling Yuan, the system promises to turn any journey into a cinematic adventure, capturing stunning aerial images without interrupting the trip.

For a price of ¥16,000 (approximately $2,200), BYD vehicle owners will be able to equip their cars with a docking station on the roof that houses a 4K drone. This innovative system allows the drone to take off, be controlled, and recharge directly from the vehicle, opening up a new world of possibilities for documenting their journeys.

Introducing Ling Yuan: BYD’s Integrated Drone System

Developed in partnership with DJI, a renowned drone manufacturer, the Ling Yuan system consists of a 4K drone and a streamlined docking base that occupies only 0.29 m² of the vehicle’s roof. At just 215 mm tall, the drone’s hangar discreetly integrates into the car’s design, waiting for the moment to spring into action.

With the simple touch of a button, the roof opens, the platform rises, and the drone takes flight. The system allows for drone operation even while the car is in motion, up to 25 km/h. Once in the air, the drone can follow the vehicle at speeds of up to 54 km/h, ensuring perfect aerial shots in any setting, whether on highways or off-road trails.

Technology and Convenience: 4K Drone, Fast Charging, and Smart Control

After filming, the drone automatically returns to the docking station on the roof, where it begins the recharging process. BYD assures that charging from 20% to 80% takes only 30 minutes while driving, minimizing wait times for the next flight.

Drone control can be managed directly through the vehicle’s infotainment screen or via the Ling Yuan app for smartphones. Additionally, the system features artificial intelligence software that assists in organizing and editing the captured images, making it easier to share on social media.

Availability and Compatible Models: The Future of the BYD Fleet

The Ling Yuan system was initially showcased in the Yangwang U8 SUV in 2023, but the first model to actually offer the technology is the Fang Cheng Bao Bao 8. BYD demonstrates its intention to popularize this innovation by expanding the system’s availability to a wider range of buyers and models.

The expectation is that this list will continue to grow, covering more and more vehicles from the brand.

Global Market: Will BYD’s Drone Arrive?

For now, there is no concrete information on the availability of the Ling Yuan system outside of China. However, BYD’s innovation is sure to attract the interest of technology enthusiasts and car lovers around the world.
